422 Days

We are 422 days deep in this adoption process, and MAN! can we see the finish line!

We have received Ladybug’s official paperwork and submitted our I800 application to USCIS. After receiving the forthcoming approval (1-3 weeks), there are a few more steps: receiving via email some numbers needed to secure her visa (3 days), the US embassy in her country completing her orphan investigation (2 weeks), awaiting one final set of paperwork called the Article 5 (1-2 weeks). Once we have received article 5, our lawyer can schedule court. Possibly in 5-7 weeks, we will have a pretty good idea or know for sure when our final trip will be!

I wanted to offer a brief financial update, as well. We have paid our final agency fees! WOO! We also have saved a reasonable chunk of change to cover plane tickets and time spent in country (3 weeks or so). We really may be “fully-funded,” a long-sought after status everyone in the adoption world loves to reach! BUT, depending on how outrageous the ticket prices are based on summer vacation status and time before booking, we may still be a little short. There’s no way to be certain, unfortunately. We’re praying and trusting that everything will work out the way it’s supposed to!

We really are SO close! I need to share soon all of the flurry of activity we’ve had here as we prepare for Ladybug’s arrival (and Gumdrop’s, too, not too long after!). Stay tuned!

5/5/5 for Families

555forfamilies

We have received our first grant!

5/5/5 for Families is a really cool program established by adoptive parents who understand how a small commitment goes a long way!

The premise is simple: On the 5th of each month, 5 new families are announced to be recipients of all giving for the rest of the month. At the end of the monthly period, the grant amount is divided equally among the five selected families. So, if many supporters commit to give $5.00 or more, many children help get home to their forever families!

We are blessed to be recipients this month, and we have a challenge for our friends, family members, and supporters:

Would at least 10 of you consider a one-time or recurring monthly donation of at least $5.00 to help children into their forever homes?

We would be honored to know that our story and our sweet Ladybug has raised awareness of the immense need that exists and has motivated our loved ones into action. It is said that our hearts follow our money and visa versa. Would you give a piece of your heart and your income in this way?

If you are willing to join in on this opportunity to help other adoptive families follow God’s call on their lives, would you please leave a comment on this blog post or contact us at forgoodblog @ hotmail.com?

We can’t wait to see what a good few can do!

It’s about time for an adoption update!

We’re surviving in this black hole of “waiting to travel.” In fact, life is going along just fine. We are staying busy which keeps us distracted, and at this point in the process, distractions are very welcome!

Process Update

We can’t and don’t expect many updates on the dossier review process. We know our dossier left for Ladybug’s country 12/3/14, and we didn’t know if we’d hear anything before it was time to travel to meet her. Well, we got an email from our agency earlier this week saying that her country is requesting the original document of something which we only sent a copy. Needless to say, we felt it imperative to remedy that quickly, and I made a mad dash drive to Denver yesterday to get the apostille on the original document! It’s now safely in our agency’s hands and should head overseas soon.

This could’ve been a setback, but it turns out to be a blessing! Because of this, we now know for 100% sure that our dossier in currently in process and being reviewed by Ladybug’s government! Yay! We were also guaranteed that they will continue the process with our dossier knowing that the original document requested is on its way. Phew!

Practically, this still means very little as it gives us no clearer time frame, but we’ll never turn down an update! Praise God!

Fundraising Update

We have been so blessed by all of you, our friends, family, and supporters. God is using you in mighty ways, and the financial piece of this puzzle has NEVER slowed us down one minute from getting Ladybug home as fast as it is within our power to do so. We are eternally grateful!

I would absolutely say that our T-Shirt fundraiser has been a success! Though we only have two shirts in stock, we would love to place another order for shirts if there’s more interest. Please let us know.

Additionally, we were so very blessed to have been the beneficiary of a sweet soup luncheon this past weekend held by the churches in my small hometown. You should’ve seen the huge number of crockpots lined up holding various delicious soups and stews! I wish I had taken a photo! We are amazed by the generosity that has been shown us and Ladybug, and we know that God sees all who have helped make this dream a reality.

We have a few more fundraisers up our sleeves, including a Willow Tree nativity piece auction! Stay tuned!

Please continue to pray for us and for Ladybug. Pray that we meet her soon and that God’s timing of this process would prevail over governments and red tape. We also covet your prayers for the other children without families in Ladybug’s country. Some have families coming for them, but most do not.

Thank you!

Girls’ Night Fun

IMG_0587.JPG

A while back, a friend at church approached me about a fun opportunity to fundraise for our adoption process costs, and I was excited to get involved! There was a girls’ night in the works, and various vendors could set up a table featuring their wares. I had never been involved in any kind of craft fair before, but I looked forward to give it a go!

A sweet friend of mine helped me brainstorm everything from what I would sell to how to display the items. She also kept me company during the event (so did Bumblebee)!

I sold homemade fudge in three flavors: pumpkin, peanut butter, and, of course, chocolate! To go with the fudge, I also sold homemade hot cocoa mix. YUM! The girls’ night was also my first chance to show off our brand new adoption t-shirts!

The final item we featured was so very exciting to me. The friend who was my saving grace for this event is also an excellent wood burner… and I think she’s won me over to the hobby! Oh so fun! Her stepfather generously donated some of their aspen wood trimmings to the cause, and my friend and I created one-of-a-kind Christmas ornaments!

It was a fun and special evening, and I’m so thankful for all of the support we received! I’m so grateful for our wonderful church community and the many ways in which they’ve blessed us in the short year we’ve been around!

(I had to include this photo of my little babushka… She was too sweet all wrapped up in this pretty little scarf and hat another woman was selling!)

T-Shirts for Sale!

We are excited to roll out our latest fundraiser! These t-shirts have been a labor of love by many, and we are proud to offer them to our friends, family, and all of those who love Ladybug!

DSC_0037 DSC_0040

We are selling these rockin’ t-shirts for $12.00 for adult sizes, and $10.00 for child and infant/toddler sizes. Add $3.00 per shirt for shipping, if required. Email us at forgoodblog@hotmail.com to order, and stay tuned for (hopefully) an easier ordering system coming soon!

Two fantastic options: indigo blue shirt with red and white lettering (not available in infant/toddler sizes) or a charcoal shirt with black and red lettering.

And my favorite part… just a tiny little personalization in the form of a ladybug!

Some of you have already had a sneak peek at these shirts, and we are blessed by the orders and sales we’ve already had! And one of you specially blessed us when you shared how the small ladybug on your shirt reminds you to pray for our little sweetie and us every time you see it.

Special thanks to Aubrey Hubbell for the designs and to Two Knight Promos for the printing.
